ROUND TABLE DISCUSSION HELD AT OPENING BOARD MEETING FOR 2010 |
Steve Santola, Woodmont Properties hosted the Round Table discussion. S. Santola serves on the DEP Transition Team for Governor Christie. He also discussed the Smart Growth Coalition and where they are headed. He began by noting that due to strict confidentiality provisions of service, he can not discuss the details of the Transition Team’s work, however he did give us general information about the team. The Team is made up of about 15 people, plus staff, from different organizations. A focus of the group was how they can streamline processes and issues and develop an action plan to address this. They discussed how to make DEP predictable and user friendly, how they can get the process down to 3 months instead of 3 years. They also included working with the other departments. They interacted with the Red Tape Committee who is reviewing how to improve the process of getting through the State departments.
With regard to the Smart Growth Coalition, he discussed getting the new Administration to focus on recruiting new businesses to New Jersey. Pennsylvania has developed a plan and we need to compete.
There will be attention re-focused on the State Plan and how to get more buy-in by the Municipalities. This Plan is being developed and expected to be released by mid January.
S. Santola also discussed the Smart Growth Economic Development Coalition’s white paper “Economic Development Recovery Strategy for New Jersey” and their recommendations for moving forward. The paper will be on the DNJ website for people to access and review.
